Where does this Gudauri snow forecast come from?

The figures are Open-Meteo's weather model output for the grid cell covering Gudauri, at 2,158 metres, and this page re-reads them every hour. "Forecast snowfall" means the fresh snow the model expects to fall in each 24 hour period, not the depth already lying on the pistes and not a measurement taken on the mountain. A seven day model is re-run several times a day and the far end of it moves a great deal more than the near end, so the first three days are worth planning around and days six and seven are worth watching rather than acting on.

Open-Meteo is a public weather API rather than a resort measurement, which is why this page says forecast rather than conditions. If you want the state of the snow on a given morning, the people to ask are the ones standing on it.

When does the Gudauri season run, and what are the lift hours?

The Gudauri ski season runs from December to April. Mountain Trails Agency (M.T.A.), which operates the lifts, publishes the Gudauri and Kobi lift hours as 10:00 to 17:00 daily, with night skiing every Friday and Saturday from 20:00 to 22:00, and its ticket offices stop selling about 30 minutes before the lifts stop. M.T.A. publishes the resort elevation as 2,200 metres. It publishes no piste-kilometre figure for Gudauri, and it keeps the live lift and trail status on its own site, which is where to look for what is actually turning on the day. This page cannot tell you that.

The forecast table above is for a model point at 2,158 metres, a little below the elevation M.T.A. publishes for the resort and a good deal below the top of the lift system, so expect the upper mountain to be colder and snowier than the table reads. How the pass itself works, including that it has to be a physical card and that night skiing is sold separately from a day pass, is set out in the Gudauri ski pass explained. Altimera does not arrange ski passes, equipment hire or lessons: passes are bought from the operator, and the rental shops and ski schools in the resort are independent businesses you book with directly.

Does snow close the road to Gudauri?

It can, and the two directions are not the same problem. On 13 January 2026 Georgia's Roads Department, citing the National Environmental Agency, suspended all traffic on the Gudauri to Kobi section of the Georgian Military Highway, between kilometres 93 and 107, because avalanche risk had been assessed as high. On the same day the Mleta to Gudauri section, the stretch you drive up from Tbilisi, was restricted to non-stop transit rather than closed. It is not a new pattern: in November 2018 the Ministry of Internal Affairs published a Roads Department statement closing that same Gudauri to Kobi section while the avalanche hazard was active. So the stretch most likely to shut is the one beyond the resort, towards Kobi and Stepantsminda, rather than the one that brings you up from the capital.

That distinction matters for two different plans. A day trip over the Jvari Pass towards Stepantsminda is decided on the morning rather than the night before, which is why the Gudauri to Kazbegi day trip tells you to keep a second plan that does not cross it. An arrival or departure day in heavy weather is worth building slack into, and Tbilisi to Gudauri in winter covers what that drive is actually like.
